The Jewels from the Peru release included many of the most famous characters ever created from OS1, including Dead Ted, Junkfood John, Tee Vee Steve, Boozin’ Bruce, Potty Scotty, and many others. In the United States, these cards introduced the hobby and became the foundation of Garbage Pail Kids collecting. In Peru, however, they became something even rarer: obscure Spanish-language counterparts produced four years later, printed on thin paper stock, and intended to be permanently glued into an album.

Because of this, surviving loose examples are extraordinarily difficult to find. Most children glued them into albums, while many of the most popular stickers were later, traded or damaged. Today, complete albums containing all 30 Peru OS1 stickers are virtually unheard of, and loose originals are highly elusive ghosts. Each surviving example represents not only one of the earliest and most beloved Garbage Pail Kids characters, but also one of the rarest international versions ever produced.

Among these 30 stickers are some of the greatest prizes in the entire hobby. Yet even beyond those legendary cards, every Peru OS1 sticker carries enormous significance. Together, these 30 characters form the heart of La Pandilla Basura and are regarded as the crown jewels of the Peru set.
